We always have a boatload of delicious fresh produce! Our selection changes on a regular basis but here is a sample of what we like to keep on hand.
Our best strawberries of the season are grown near Ponchatoula, Louisiana. They are available in March and April according to how the weather cooperates.
Arkansas tomato season generally doesn’t start till June so we try to bring you the next best available. Our vine ripe tomatoes from Florida have become very popular over the years. Available March, April, and May.
Fresh okra is available by the pound or by the box from mid-May through October.
Candy Onions are one of our seasonal favorites. This variety of sweet onions is well suited for our region. The summer crop is usually available from mid May till July 1 and fall crop from mid September to Christmas. Nobody asks for Vidalia onions after experiencing our Candy onions.
Of all the heirloom tomatoes that grow well in our region, Cherokee purple is the favorite. The year we introduced Cherokee purple tomatoes AKA “Indian tomatoes” we only sold about 10 boxes. Now we sell 400 to 500 boxes in a season. Available June through October.
Peaches are available from June through October. The early varieties are cling peaches. Freestone varieties usually start around the beginning of July. The month of August produces the sweetest peaches most years.
The main season for speckled butterbeans and green butterbeans AKA “baby limas” is the month of June. They are sometimes available in July and August but depends on the weather.
Dumas, Arkansas is home of Esau Sweet Corn. The season is From Mid-June through July. The sweet corn is available daily at Newswanger’s while in season.

Our purple hull peas are shelled daily and are in season July through September. Please sign up for our newsletter for availability updates. Our peas are very popular and we sell out daily. The best way to make sure you get some is to sign up.
From August till October you can pick your own muscadines just down the road or pick them up at our store already picked. Don’t forget our 100% natural muscadine juice.
Newswanger’s Produce and Garden Center is fast becoming famous for the fresh, crispy apples brought straight from the orchards in western Michigan. The apples are transported in bulk bins and graded at the store. The utility grade apples are used to make fresh pressed apple cider.
Mid-October through February is the season for fresh crop pecans. They are available whole or shelled.
Our Louisiana satsumas, navel oranges, and lemons are available from late October till Christmas. Once you taste local citrus you will be hooked.
Locally grown is the best. The sooner you eat it after it’s picked the more nutritious it is. When local is not available we bring in the best produce from an extended area. Our goal is always to keep transport time to a minimum. (generic photo w/eggplant, zucchini, cabbage, tomato, etc.)
